Unless you are one of the few in the world that does not use Twitter on a daily basis, you no doubt realized that they went offline for a short while last week – Friday to be exact. According to Twitter, the outage was due to a “cascaded bug in one of their infrastructure components.”

For many in my industry that use Twitter almost constantly to either push content, interact with others, conduct research, provide status updates or whatever other reasons people use Twitter, it was almost like having an arm cut off when the micro-blogging site wen t down. Well, not really, but it did force many of us over to Facebook or Google+ for a short time, social sites we are active on anyway, but sites that don’t have the same ease of use as Twitter.

At any rate, this post is not about the outage but rather to simply point out the fact of how important Twitter has become in the daily lives of so many. The following infographic takes a visual look at Twitter in 2012 and includes some of the freshest statistics.
