Long Island politician Jeffrey Toback who is a member of the Nassau County Legislature is suing Google claiming that Google is profiting from child pornography. The 16-page complaint filed in state Supreme Court in Mineola states, “This case is about a multi-billion dollar company that promotes and profits from child pornography.”

“They have paid links to Web sites containing child pornography,” Toback told The Associated Press in a telephone interview. “They take money from these sites.”

What did Google have to say?

“When we find or are made aware of any child pornography, we remove it from our products, including our search engine,” Google spokesman Steve Langdon said. “We also report it to the appropriate law enforcement officials and fully cooperate with the law enforcement community to combat child pornography.”

According to the Phayul.com story, Toback is not seeking any specific monetary damages but rather wants Google to prohibit advertising relating to Web sites that display, market or otherwise provide illegal access to pornography.

This law suit does just happen to fall on an election year so one has to wonder if the real agenda is to gain some free press or to actually deal with the issue itself.
