As a follow-up to a story I blogged on Monday regarding Google’s move to Arizona and whether that location would be Scottsdale or Tempe, it has been confirmed that Tempe is the winner.

The Business Journal reports today that Google has confirmed that they will lease temporary office space at Arizona State University. “The Mountain View, California based company is expanding in the Valley with an engineering, operations and IT support functions office as part of a worldwide effort to build engineering centers in locations where there are great engineers,” according to Google.

Tempe Mayor Hugh Hallman is reported as saying, “Google’s plans are a great result for the city. More important, this is a great result for the region. It’s important we can demonstrate that this region can attract internationally recognized technology companies and that we can all work together to make more of this kind of activity occur.”

Business Journal goes on to report:

” Google plans to initially lease a 10,000-square-foot office at the University Services Building, an ASU administrative building, located on Rural Road, south of Apache Boulevard. It should accommodate about 50 employees, initially. The plan is that Google would expand its space in the building to 28,000 square feet by July, which could then accommodate 150 workers.”
