Is Froogle, a shopping project that Google has had in beta for some time now, going by the wayside? Not exactly. Google Base has swallowed it up. Base is a project that is thought to be Google’s answer in competing with the likes of Craigslist and eBay. They have moved Froogle into the Base environment.

Here is the notice that was sent to all Froogle account holders:

“We’re pleased to announce Google Base, a new resource that offers you the tools you need to submit your Froogle bulk upload files (formerly known as feeds) and keep them updated. With Google Base, you can:

  • Create and send bulk upload files
  • Add and define custom attributes specific to your offers
  • Confirm the status of a bulk upload without having to contact the Froogle support team
  • Edit and check the status of each item in your bulk upload

Your existing account and product information has already been transferred and is now viewable in Google Base. Along with Froogle, your content should also be viewable on http://base.google.com; you can search there to verify that your items appear online shortly after you post them.”

So from now on when you click “Information for Sellers” on the Froogle home page, you’ll be brought to a new sign-in page. You can learn more information about this change by clicking here.

So the question remains, “Is Froogle being replaced by Base?” Jason Lee Miller of Web Pro News has the following to say:

“As for Froogle feeds, most of the Froogle fields, now called “attributes” have an equivalent Google Base attribute and merchants submitting product feeds can rename the attribute names in the header line. Though their system will still be able to process Froogle field names, the company strongly recommends merchants use the Google base attributes instead.”
