Joe Morin has a new project he is working on. It is called “A Super Bowl Commercial Marriage Proposal” and can be likened to Alex Tew’s Million Dollar Homepage idea and Kyle MacDonald’s One Red Paperclip project.
If you recall, Alex raised $1,037,000.00 by selling pixels on his homepage and Kyle aspired to trade a single red paper clip for something bigger and better. 14 trades later, he ended up with a house in Canada. In this project, a person who we will call JP (to keep his identity secret from his girlfriend) wants to make his wedding proposal in a TV commercial during next year’s Super Bowl.
I believe that the original idea was to raise the $2.5 million needed for a 30 second commercial spot during the game but seeing that every commercial slot is already sold out, the idea now is to generate enough buzz about the project in order to get one of the advertiser’s attention to sponsor JP’s idea. Possibly the advertiser could incorporate it into their commercial? It would definitely make for a memorable spot which is what they are trying to do anyway.
Danny Sullivan also has an idea to actually link to JP’s site with the anchor text will you (as I have just done) with the goal of enabling his site to come up first in all the search engines (or at least one) when “will you” is searched for. Once the site reaches that status, JP could change the title tag to something like “Marry Me [INSERT GIRLFRIEND’S NAME],” as an answer to “Will you.” It will take a lot of people linking to the site but can most certainly be done if enough people get involved.
It will be interesting to watch this project and see how it all turns out. My best wishes to Joe and JP in making this project a success story.
